Wheat Ridge Kite Flite Festival
*** 2017 Festival Canceled ***
April is National Kite Month. Come fly with us!
Kite flying is an old-fashioned yet thoroughly modern way to connect people. It creates smiles, makes us feel like a kid again, gives us an opportunity to soak up some sun and enjoy spring breezes that lift kites to the sky.
As you arrive at Anderson Park upbeat music will fill the air. An emcee will be announcing a multitude of activities throughout the day that are sure to please every age. Here are just a few:
There will be lots of kids’ arts and crafts in the outdoor pavilion; a kids’ chalk art festival; parachute races; drawings for free kites; whacky awards: clowns; hula hoops; and food vendors.
The Wheat Ridge Police Department will be performing car seat safety inspections and replacement, as needed. There will be numerous information booths about child safety, free face painting and a balloon twister. The WRPD will also have a bike rodeo and give away two bicycles.
The Flight for Life Helicopter will touch down between noon and 2 PM and attendees will be able to take a peek into the cockpit. (See the activities schedule)
Bring your whole family but please leave your dog, wide strollers and coolers at home.
Weather alert: Only heavy snow/rain or excessively high winds will lead to cancellation. We will fly in intermittent snow/rain regardless of the temperature. If the event is to be canceled, a notice will be posted here. Dress warmly and wear sunglasses.
Kites for sale: Jake’s Toy Box, a festival vendor, will have kites starting at $6.00. They’ll also have more elaborate kites. Free assembly at our kite hospital.
